About Dharma Master Heng Chih
Dharma Master Heng Chih has been translating Buddhist texts such as the Śūraṅgama Sūtra, the Vajra Prajñā Pāramitā Sūtra, and the Avataṃsaka Sūtra from Chinese to English for over forty years. Currently, she serves as the Chair of the Board for Dharma Realm Buddhist University (DRBU) and lectures and leads Dharma assemblies in North America, Australia, and Asia.
Venerable Master Hsuan Hua's History in Brazil
Upasaka Yu Shau Shing was once the sole survivor of an airplane crash. He realized his survival was a great opportunity to offer himself to Buddhism. When he saw the Master, he felt as if they were old friends. Right away he asked the Master to go to Brazil to teach the Dharma in 1973. The Master visited Brazil in March that same year, marking the beginning of his efforts to share the Buddhist teachings in South America.
Excerpted from the April 2011 issue of Vajra Bodhi Sea:
“I went there to sow seeds and plant sprouts. During my stay in South America, I recited the Great Compassion Mantra 100,000 times. So, when the bodhi fruits ripen, it will be the responsibility of all of you to harvest them.”

About the Book
The Śūraṅgama Sūtra was translated under the auspices of CEBB into Brazilian Portuguese by Caroline Souza following Lama Padma Samten's request. Caroline has a master's degree in English Literature and has worked as a translator for over ten years. She was also the editor of the center's magazine, Revista Bodisatva, and currently works both as a translator of Dharma books and texts and an interpreter for Buddhist teachers. The translation of the Śūraṅgama Sūtra was closely supervised and guided by Lama Padma Samten himself, in the context of a yearly study of this text offered by Lama Padma Samten to the Sangha. Lama Padma Samten has been regularly studying the Surangama Sutra with the Sangha, line by line, since 2021.
